The Simplest & Tastiest BBQ Chicken

Everytime I make this dish I feel like I am cheating on a recipe. For this BBQ chicken dinner, all I do is marinate the chicken the night before in a Korean BBQ Sauce (Brand: Hanasia). There’s actually so many Korean BBQ Sauces at the Korean market, but I’ve used this one for a while and have been happy with the results.  I’ve used other ones too and they are good too!  This marination is actually supposed to be for Kalbi, but I use it for chicken and beef. I marinated this yesterday for tonight’s dinner. All I had to do was put the oven at 375 degrees for about 45 minutes to 1 hour. I flip the chicken every 15 minutes and during the last flip, I always make sure the skin is facing up so I can add some chopped green onions. I also like the flavorful crispy skin, so I always put it at a broil for the last 5-10 minutes!

A Durian Pastry Made Me Smile

Rough day…rough week! I didn’t have time to eat my lunch and on my way home I just kept thinking about what I could eat when I got home. Luckily for me, I had a piece of Durian Pastry from Asian Pearl (one of my favorite dim sum places) from lunch last weekend. Yes…durian does have a distinct smell, some may say it smells nasty. When I was a kid, I hated it too, my siblings and I would lock the doors when my parents ate it. But, my parents made us try everything at least once, something I am extremely grateful for.  So one day, they stuck a little bit into our mouths, we tasted it and realized it was sweet and actually tasted really good. And the strange thing is, after you try it, the smell changes too, it suddenly smells delicious! So after trying it, we always enjoyed this fruit with our parents.  Yummy!

Researching on Chinese Chefs for Work

Today I’ve been researching on Chinese Chefs for a client. I swear that this annoying client keeps wanting Asian stuff during their program. She’s already wanted to add the Japanese Tea Garden during her museum tour, then wanted to add a Chinese Tea Tasting at the Imperial Tea Court after visiting the Asian Art Museum! Then she wanted to upgrade her San Francisco Chinatown tour by doing the Wok Wiz Tour with Shirley Fong-Torres. And now I come to find out that Shirley Fong-Torres may not be available so I may have to research on Martin Yan! Maybe I should just do the damn tour!

Dragon Fruit, I will try it again in Asia

The last time I ate Dragon Fruit, I was in Hong Kong, and it was sweet and crunchy.  I had no idea how a Dragon Fruit looked like when I ate it on vacation, because when I ate it, it was peeled and sliced. Last weekend when I was at Ranch 99 doing some grocery shopping, I couldn’t decide what fruit to buy but saw some ladies buying this strange looking pretty fruit. I had to try it, I was asking them how I was  supposed to pick it and everything. They told me to pick the ones that are more red cause they will be sweeter and fresh. Then they told me to just peel it the same way I would peel a banana. So today, I decided to eat this beautiful tropical looking fruit. And when I opened it, I realized I’ve actually had this before but in Hong Kong! Little did I know…

But, I got am now so disappointed, it is still crunchy, juicy and fresh, but it’s not sweet at all! But I just keep eating it cause I just googled it and found out that it’s full of nutrients, plus I did buy it. So now, I have half of my Dragon Fruit staring at me.

The Carne Asada Quesadilla Suiza at El Farolito

Last weekend I went to El Farolito Taqueria…I’ve been craving the Carne Asada Quesadilla Suiza for weeks! They have one in the Mission District but we decided to try another location! It was sooo good and they were super nice there! We had 2 orders and got ourselves the Pineapple Agua Fresca. I told the guy ringing us up that I was craving the Carne Asada Quesadilla Suiza for weeks and was super duper happy to finally eat it. He chuckled, thought I was funny. During the middle of our meal, he came over and gave us a Strawberry Agua Fresca, he said that we may enjoy it more than the Pineapple one. He didn’t just give us the medium size, he gave us a large! For FREE!!! And OMG, it was sooo fresh and sweet!  I can’t wait to go back!
