Seasonal Pumpkin Truffle at Godiva

During my college years, I worked at a Godiva. I was surrounded by lots of chocolate, happy people looking forward to their piece of expensive chocolate and classical music all day long. During the holiday season, they had seasonal truffles and during my time, they had a seasonal pumpkin truffle which I loved! Pumpkin flavored truffle, how can I not love it?! While I was shopping for Godiva for my mom during this holiday season, I came upon this piece of pumpkin truffle that made me reminiscence about my college days, when all the worries were actually minuscule in comparison to the worries and responsibilities I have today.   Thank you, you sweet delight, for making me realize how far I’ve come. And yes, it tasted as good as I remembered.

Comfort Food at Tani’s Kitchen

We went to Tani’s Kitchen again last Friday night, and this time, we went early to avoid the lines! Again, this place is very small, with approximately 8 seats for the table seating and 6 seats for the bar seating.  If you do come here, just know that they get a lot of calls for to go orders, so don’t expect to be served immediately!

During my last visit to Tani’s Kitchen, I ordered other delicious dishes, this time I decided to try something different. On this cold rainy night, I decided to get the California Rolls and the Curry with Tonkatsu, deep fried breaded pork cutlet, over rice.  My hubby got what I normally order, the Spicy Hamburger Steak over rice! Tani serves fresh crab in their California Rolls, none of that fake stuff, I love that! I usually get the Uni Nigiri here since it’s a good deal, but since I wanted to share an appetizer with the hubby, I got the California Rolls instead! We actually also shared a side of the simple Macaroni Salad, but we ate it so fast and I forgot to take a photo! I really enjoyed my delish breaded deep fried tonkatsu and rice in the curry, with just a hint of spice, it warmed me up on this cold cold night.

Brown Butter Cookie Company, Sea Salt Never Tasted So Good

Last night, my hubby decided to take a look out the front door since he’s expecting a delivery. Sitting outside was a little unexpected box, it was a gift from a friend of mine who is the Dough Maker at Brown Butter Cookie Company!  I opened the box and to my surprise, she mailed me 3 cute packages of Brown Butter Cookies-the Original, the Espresso and the Cocoa!  First off, I am still touched by the fact that she mailed them to me, it is just so thoughtful! I have been meaning to get these cookies for the longest time but I haven’t had a chance, and now after tasting them,  I completely understand why they have so many fans! I felt like I took a bite into heaven, they are AMAZING and adding a touch of sea salt on the cookies is not just oh so creative, but such a divine idea!

From looking at their website, the Original Brown Butter Sea Salt cookies are their version of a shortbread cookie. The Espresso Brown Butter Sea Salt cookies are hand made with fresh espresso, a hint of Scharffen Berger cocoa powder and cinnamon. And the Cocoa Brown Butter Sea Salt Cookies are made with all natural Scharffen Berger Cocoa powder!

But these descriptions do not express the taste of these soft buttered up cookies with a hint of sea salt! I would recommend Brown Butter Cookie Company to everyone! Get them for a friend or just get them for yourself, I promise you won’t regret it!

Food-You Make Everyone Get into a Better Mood

As I finished my lunch, a snack and preparing myself for what I should have for dinner, I am reminded about how food is the best topic for all conversations, the best reasons to have gatherings with friends, and the one thing each and everyone of us, men and women, have in common. Even as you log into the world of Facebook, all your friends have pictures of food from their home cooking or from their favorite restaurants. I know I can’t be the only one with about 75% of my friends posting food photos! And just as I am typing this, my own husband just emailed me a photo of what he’s about to devour! And yes, he wanted me to guess where he was eating!

Food is, as we all know, a necessity in life. But food also brings a proud feeling to those who create them, a sense of desire when we smell them, and pure happiness to those who see the beauty in them. I LOVE LOVE LOVE food, thank you food, I always look forward to seeing you!

I See the Light-Dinner at Firefly

I’ve heard good reviews on Firefly in the past, but never had a chance to try this charming restaurant located in the neighborhood of Noe Valley, serving contemporary American comfort food.  I am so glad to have tried it, I loved the casual quaint ambiance and I loved the flavors of the dishes!

After we put in our orders,  they served us artisan bread with a black bean spread flavored with cumin, not the basic creamy butter spread, it was a great way to start the meal, a little unexpected surprise that showed creativity.  We ordered three appetizers to share, the Roasted Brussels Sprouts, Mixed Greens Salad with Comice Pear and the House Cured Steelhead Trout.  The salad was good, we just wanted fresh greens. The Brussels Sprouts were grilled perfectly and you can’t really go wrong with the addicting flavors of Parmesan and White Truffle Oil. And the House Cured Steelhead Trout’s combination, served with Roe, a  Crispy Potato and Meyer Lemon Creme Fraiche was just perfecto!

The four of us ordered different entrees so I had a chance to taste a little bit of everything, from the Slow Cooked Chicken Breast which was moist and completely full of flavors, the Braised Beef Brisket which was tender and oh so good, to the Bone-In Sonoma Lamb Loin which I loved.  I myself ordered the Black Cod served with Turnips, Sweet Baby Carrots, Shimeji Mushrooms and a Miso Broth. What an amazing dish, I didn’t let anything on my plate go to waste, I loved every bite of it!

And yes, we actually still had room for dessert, we shared the Mascarpone Panna Cotta with Meyer Lemon Gelee, Huckleberry Compote and Huckleberry Jam filled Shortbread AND the Caramelized Upsidedown Pink Lady Apple Cobbler with Cheddar Biscuit, Cider Caramel and Creme Fraiche Cinnamon Brittle Ice Cream.  I really enjoyed the Mascarpone Panna Cotta with Meyer Lemon Gelee and the Creme Fraiche Cinnamon Brittle Ice Cream, but I wasn’t too crazy about the Apple Cobbler with Cheddar Biscuit.

Overall, I really enjoyed this neighborhood gem!

I *Heart* Kimchi

I love eating kimchi, I love the spicy goodness.  Most of the time, I find myself buying a jar at Kukje Super Market, I almost always have a jar in my refrigerator. It’s perfect over rice, over ramen, to make kimchi jjigae (soup) and even kimchi fried rice!  But nothing beats the love I felt when my BFF brought a container of homemade kimchi from her mom! I was so happy and began to reminisce about the days when I was a broke ass high school kid at their house. Her mom made all the Korean condiments and all of them were extremely tasty. The one thing I used to take out of their fridge was the tupperware of kimchi,  I’d put it on a plate and eat it by itself cause it was just so damn good! Last night I had some of this kimchi, so did my hubby, and the first thing he said was, “Why don’t we get this from her more often! This is so much better than the one from the market!” I am so glad he got to try what I’ve been raving for years…and yes…my favorite Korean mom put it in a tupperware for me.
