Umami Burger…A Little More Gourmet to Your Burger

Last weekend we had a late lunch and decided that we really wanted a burger, a real juicy burger! So, we decided to finally try Umami Burger. I’ve seen quite a few people checking in to this place so I had a feeling it was going to be good. We went to the Palo Alto location, and we were there quite late, it was probably 2:00pm on a Sunday.  We were very lucky we didn’t have to wait cause right after we were seated, we noticed a line!

We shared the very crispy Thin Fries served with the tender braised short rib and house gravy. I really liked the fries and house gravy, the short rib was okay, but nothing to write home about.  For the burgers, we decided on the Original and the Truffle Burger, both medium rare. The Original was served with shiitake mushroom, caramelized onions, roasted tomato, parmesan crisp and Umami ketchup. There was a lot of flavors to this one, somehow the flavors reminded me of Chinese barbecue pork bun flavors!  The Truffle Burger served with house-made truffle cheese and truffle glaze was so damn good though, I loved the hint of truffle flavors.  The plus about both was the meat for the burgers, they were definitely plump and juicy, and they really did make them medium rare. The buns were even good, with just a little sweetness and fluff. The only downside is that they’re not cheap, and the order doesn’t come with anything (not even a pickle!) besides what you see below.

Even though it’s a bit overpriced, I’ve already decided that the next time I visit, I will have the Manly Burger…until next time..

Gimme Some Big Mouth Burgers

Yes, I do love good burgers, so the hubby decided to bring me to Big Mouth Burgers, he seems to have visited quite often without me for lunch! We were there for dinner and I was hungry! I got myself the Hangover Burger, topped with fried egg which I was hoping to be a little more runny, bacon, American Cheese and Chipotle Mayo! Kent got himself a burger and added bacon with blue cheese!  For our sides, we upgraded to Sweet Potato Fries and Half Fries & Onion Rings, the sides were really crunchy! We both requested medium rare for the meat but it was more on the cooked side. The meat was not dry or anything, it was still moist, but not what we expected. He mentioned that the meat was usually cooked to order during the day, so maybe there are different chefs on different shifts.  Overall, the flavors were good and we’ll return!

A Beautiful Afternoon at the Ferry Building

When people from out of town visit, we love bringing them to the Ferry Building! There is just so much offered here at this beautiful historical building- food, snacks, local businesses and a breathtaking view! And for some strange reason, the last few times I’ve visited, the sun sparkled on the water.

Last week, we decided to eat burgers at the Gott’s Roadside. They have outdoor seating, which is great on a sunny day along the Embarcadero.  They also have indoor seating on those windy days and on those days you just don’t want to deal with the flying rats, the pigeons that is.  I ordered the Blue Cheese Burger, my hubby ordered the Bacon Cheeseburger and we all shared the Sweet Potato Fries.  I really enjoy the big burgers here, I especially love that they are served on a toasted egg bun.  And the Sweet Potato Fries dusted with chili spice are just so delicious and crispy, and you will love them that much more when you dip them into the house-made ranch.  One thing I didn’t get since I knew I wanted to save some room for my cup of Blue Bottle Coffee was the super yummy White Pistachio Shake.  Friends of ours ordered it and loved it!

Next stop, the long line at Blue Bottle Coffee.  We just wanted a little jolt, so we decided on a cup of regular drip coffee.  And yes, they were individually dripped by what I believe is the Bonmac Ceramic Dripper (at least it looked something like this),  not served from a coffee pot. It was a tasty strong cup of coffee, but I think that next time, I will have to try something else since I was waiting in line anyways.

I can’t wait for my next visit, hopefully we have out of town friends visit again so we have a reason to eat good and enjoy the beauty of the city!
