Hong Kong Style Food at Cafe Honolulu

Cafe Honolulu may not be the cleanest place on earth, but where can you really find a really clean place in Chinatown? I grew up in Chinatown, so I guess I am used to it. On Sunday, we decided to grab baked rice dishes at Cafe Honolulu.  When we order baked rice dishes at other restaurants, they don’t usually flavor the rice with egg making it kind of like a light fried rice, but this place does and the creamy sauce flavors are also very good! My hubby ordered his favorite Ox Tongue in Tomato Sauce over Rice and my mom and I both ordered the Baked Seafood over Rice.  We also ordered the sweet Milk Tea to complement our meals! Yummy!

Hong Kong Style Dinner at Cafe Orchid

Yesterday I was too lazy to cook dinner after picking up the hubby at the airport,  so we went to grab a quick dinner at Cafe Orchid. We’ve been here a couple of times, I don’t love it here, but they do have some good deals. Their deals and food are not as  good as some other places, but  if you are just looking for a quick bite, it’s not bad either. Millbrae has quite a few Hong Kong Fast Food style restaurants, and Cafe Orchid is quite new, and although it doesn’t offer the best food, it seems to be busy.

We both ordered a meal that came with a cup of Milk Tea and Sweet Buns.  I got the Pork Chop with the Sweet Corn Sauce over Spaghetti for $8.50 and my hubby ordered the Sizzling Rib Eye with Tomato Sauce over Rice for $12.99. His meal also came with the Soup of the Day, it was actually Cream of Corn, but it was really salty so I put some of his soup into my pasta and used it as additional sauce! Overall, our meal was okay, not great, just okay.  Some may question why I even come here if I don’t really like it, but everytime I come here , I hope to pick that one dish that I will love at this place. I just haven’t tasted it yet.

Tea Time at Broadway Cafe

Today I had to pick up my mom in Chinatown, we decided to go to Broadway Cafe for their tea time meal between 3:00pm – 6:00pm.  They actually call it their Happy Hour Specials Menu, and they offer a huge menu selection at discounted prices. The Happy Hour Specials are between 9:00am – 11:00am, 3:00pm-6:00pm and 10:00pm to 1:00am.   For those who have a difficult time ordering at a Chinese Restaurant in Chinatown, they have lots of photos so it makes thing much easier.

During the watermelon season, they serve a Watermelon Juice for cheap. Everytime I come here, I have to get one, I ordered it before we even got our menus. For our meal, we ordered the Salt & Pepper Chicken Wings, Fried Pig’s Intestine, Drunken Chicken and Bean Sprout Chow Mein.   I have to admit, I couldn’t find myself to eat the Fried Pig’s Intestine, but my mom had to order it and she almost finished the whole dish on her own, I guess she’s been craving it for a while! I loved everything else we ordered. The Salt & Pepper Chicken Wings were perfectly crisped and flavored, the Drunken Chicken was really tasty with a hint of alcohol flavor and the Bean Sprout Chow Mein was perfectly stirred and fried, it was not soggy at all! All the dishes were rather big, I was actually expecting smaller portions since they were at discounted prices. And when we got the bill, it was $18.00 plus gratuity! You really can’t beat a price like that!
